Troubleshoot how to pair your hearing aid to Bluetooth on both iPhone and Android.Updated a month ago

  1. Verify your phone is connected to both devices via Bluetooth.
    • Go into Android or iPhone settings (gear icon app) and select Bluetooth connections.
    • Verify you are connected and paired to the hearing devices.  It should say connected for call and media audio.
  2. Verify the app thinks both devices are connected to the phone via Bluetooth.
    • Open the HearingAssist or myiHear app and click on Sound Control.  The app should recognize both devices are connected.

If only one device is having problems connecting, then it is typically caused by not having both hearing aids ready at the time of pairing with Bluetooth.

  1. Hold down both power buttons for 15+ seconds, the devices should power OFF and reset the Bluetooth
  2. On the Android or iPhone, go to “Settings” (geared icon) and select Bluetooth.
  3. If the hearing device is currently paired with only the left or the right, then unpair the hearing device.
  4. Turn on both hearing devices and select “Scan for Bluetooth” device on the Android or iPhone.
  5. Listen for both devices to say “connected”.  If only one device says connected, then repeat steps 1 through 4.  If both devices do not say “connected”, then you may not have held the power button for more than 15 seconds for both devices to reset or the devices did not respond correctly.  It could be that when your phone finds two Bluetooth devices, you select the left Bluetooth device instead of the pair or perhaps the right Bluetooth device.  If you only have a choice of which device to “pair”, then select the right device.  The other thing to consider is that you may have some other Bluetooth audio devices such as another set of earbuds or Bluetooth headphones that are ON or want to connect and there is a conflict.

Once both devices have been successfully paired, then:

  1. Download the Hearing Assist STREAM app that is in red.
  2. With the hearing devices ON, open the app.  It should automatically look for the hearing devices.
  3. Verify that the app recognizes both hearing devices and displays battery charge levels.  If only one or neither hearing device is found, then go to “Sound Control” and scan for the hearing devices.  If the battery charge level is low, then it may prevent you from connecting via Bluetooth.  Insert the devices in the charger case and verify the blue LEDs are lit indicating that the devices are successfully connected to the charger.  If the hearing devices connect, then disconnect, and then reconnect again, it might be an indication that there are a lot of Bluetooth devices currently activated in the area that are interfering.  If there are no devices around that could be interfering, then it’s possible the hearing aids are not functioning correctly.

For Android Galaxy phones that won’t immediately pair:

  1. Go to settings (gear icon app)
  2. Go to Bluetooth connections
    1. Make sure Bluetooth is on
  3. Go to more connection settings
    1. Make sure nearby device scanning is on
  4. Go to private DNS
    1. If it’s set to “automatic” switch to “off”
  5. Once it’s off, go back to app
    1. Remove hearing aid from the app
    2. Tap search for device in the app
    3. Tap to connect the hearing aids

For other Android phones, you may need to Google where the DNS setting is located.
